Police charge two men with 28 counts Arson

August 26, 2016

Cape Breton Regional Police arrested and charged a 49-year-old North Sydney man and a 24-year-old Bras d’Or man on August 25, in connection with 16 fires throughout the Florence and Bras d’Or communities of the CBRM in recent months.

Stephen Eric Tremblett will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on Friday August 26, 2016, to face 12 charges of Arson.

James Clayton MacDonald will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on Friday, August 26, 2016, to face 16 charges of Arson.

Police responded to numerous reports of suspicious fires in recent months in the Florence and Bras d’Or communities of the CBRM, and an intensified investigation was launched, led by the CBRPS Arson Investigator, the General Investigative Section, Street Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, and the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Through these investigations, officers were able to identify Tremblett and MacDonald as the suspects. Both males have been remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Facility until their court appearance on Friday August 26, 2016.

The investigation is on-going.
