Police charge four males in Needs convenience store armed robbery

On Wednesday, April 13, at approximately 12:30AM, the Cape Breton Regional Police responded to a report of a home invasion that had taken place on Havelock Street in Sydney.

Three males, whose faces were covered with bandanas, kicked through the door to the residence and entered. One of the males was armed with a weapon.

All three suspects then fled from the scene in a vehicle. One of the victims sustained a minor injury, but refused medical attention.

At least one of the victims and one of the suspects are known to each other.

Subsequently at approximately 12:35AM on April 13, the Cape Breton Regional Police responded to a report of an armed robbery that had taken place at Needs on George Street in Sydney.

Both suspects, one of which was armed with a weapon, entered the convenience store, demanded money from the clerk and fled from the scene in a vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money. The store clerk sustained a minor injury to his forehead and nose, but refused medical attention.

Through their investigation, police were able to determine that these two incidents were connected, and locate and arrest the four males involved, who now face a number of charges:

23-year-old Norman Brandon Fong of Sydney was arrested on April 19th in Sydney and faces charges of: Robbery with a firearm (x2), Disguise with Intent (x2), Firearm- use while committing offence (x2), Careless Use of Firearm (x2), Pointing a Firearm (x2), Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (x2), Unlawfully in Dwelling House (x1), Forcible Entry (x1), Failure to Comply with Undertaking or Recognizance (x10).

27-year-old Clayton Anthony Thomas of Glace Bay was arrested on April 18th in Glace Bay and faces charges of: Robbery with Firearm (x2), Disguise with Intent (x2), Forcible Entry (x1), Assault (x1), Unlawfully in Dwelling House (x1), Breach of Probation Order (x4).

24-year-old Arthur Joseph Jolie of Sydney was arrested on April 18th in Sydney and faces charges of: Robbery with Firearm (x2), Disguise with Intent (x1), Forcible Entry (x1), Unlawfully in Dwelling House (x1).

26-year-old David Lesley Manning of Sydney was arrested on April 18th in Sydney and faces charges of Robbery with a Firearm (x2), Disguise with Intent (x1), Forcible Entry (x1), Unlawfully in Dwelling House (x1).

All four males are scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court later today.
