Police charge youth with arson

August 1, 2013

After an extensive, 13-month investigation with the Fire Marshall's Office, Forensic Identifcation Unit and Arson Investigator, police have charged 17-year-old youth with Arson for a June 2012 fire on Causeway Drive in Sydney River.

He is scheduled to appear in Court today.



Police investigate suspicious fire

August 1, 2013

At approximately 11:45 last night, Cape Breton Regional Police and Fire Services responded to a structure fire at 5 Stanley Street in North Sydney. The structure was vacant at the time of the fire and is currently being investigated by the Fire Marshalls Office as well as the CBRPS Forensic Identification and General Investigation Units.

Police search, charge male for drugs

July 30, 2013

The Cape Breton Regional Police Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residence on Henry Street in Sydney yesterday evening, seizing a quantity of Marihuana and cash. Police arrested a 23-year-old male for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Marihuana; he was released on a Promise to Appear in Sydney Provincial Court on September 23rd.

Police deal with several impaired drivers overnight

July 28, 2013

Cape Breton Regional Police Service dealt with five separate incidents involving impaired drivers last night.

In Central, the Community Safety Enforcement Unit located two impaired drivers and Patrol officers a third; there were no accidents resulting from these three cases.

In North, Patrol officers arrested an impaired driver after responding to a complaint of a minor motor vehicle accident on Johnson Road in George's River. There were no injuries.

Patrol officers in East received another call of a motor vehicle accident near Lingan Road in River Ryan, involving a 19-year-old female driver a male passenger in his thirties. Both received non life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital by EHS.

Charges for these incidents include Refusing the Breathalyser and Failing the Breathalyzer; court dates were not readily available at the time of this release.



Police investigate robbery, locate stolen vehicle 

July 27, 2013

At approximately 6:00 AM, Cape Breton Regional Police responded to an area near the East Bay Highway, where a 27-year-old male reported being robbed of money, personal items and his vehicle, a white 2007 Cadillac Escalade.

Youth arrested for drug possession, trafficking

At approximately 8:00 PM, members of the CBRPS Community Street Enforcement Unit arrested a 17-year-old male near the North Sydney forum for Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of trafficking.
