The young offender is charged with two counts of Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm and two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm.

Police originally responded to reports of the collision on Cottage Road, near Cabot Street, at approximately 4:00 AM on February 18th. Upon further investigation, police determined the 17-year-old driver of a Honda Civic, travelling West on Cottage Road, crossed the centre line into the oncoming path of a Ford Taurus wagon, driven by a 63-year-old female. Both drivers and two additional male occupants in the Honda Civic, aged 16 and 18, were all taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old male was remanded to the custody of Cape Breton Corrections Officers yesterday evening, February 19th.

The Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate this incident; anyone with information that might help police in their investigation is asked to call 563-5151, or anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
