At approximately 3:20 PM, police officers responded to reports of an injured 2-year-old child who had fallen from a window at a Perry Street residence in North Sydney. The child was taken to Cape Breton Regional Hospital by EHS for treatment of what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.

On scene, a Cape Breton Regional Police officer was moving a marked police vehicle out of the way for an ambulance, and while backing up the vehicle he struck a 66-year-old male pedestrian. Members of EHS responded to the scene to treat the man; he was pronounced deceased at 4:30 PM.

Because this incident resulted in a death following police involvement, Cape Breton Regional Police contacted SiRT and they are conducting an investigation. Any questions about their investigation should be directed to SiRT.
