Police charge suspect in Armed Robbery

Sydney... The 25-year-old male arrested yesterday, in connection to the Armed Robbery at Sobeys Fast Fuels Service Station on Prince Street, will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today.

William Joseph Tait, of no fixed address, is charged with Robbery Using a Firearm.

Police originally responded to a panic alarm at approximately 3:05 AM on November 8th; upon arrival, police learned that an armed robbery had taken place and the suspect had fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Patrol officers and the K-9 Unit searched the area but were unable to locate a suspect; the investigation was turned over to the Major Crime Unit.

With the assistance of Patrol officers, video surveillance helped identify a potential suspect, leading police to make an arrest during the afternoon of November 9th. He was later charged and remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre until his scheduled court appearance today.

The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate; further charges are pending.
